BREAKING, Americas Got Talent cheerleader Emily Gold has died at age 17
In August, Emily Gold and her high school dance team from Los Osos High stunned audiences across the country with their performance on America’s Got Talent. Sadly, just weeks after her captivating appearance on the show, Emily, a 17-year-old dancer, passed away.
The San Bernardino Coroner’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday, September 13, that Emily had died by suicide. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a distress call about a pedestrian in the carpool lane of the eastbound 210 freeway in Rancho Cucamonga. Public Information Officer Rodrigo Jimenez stated, “When officers arrived, they located a 17-year-old female who had been struck by at least one vehicle. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Authorities have asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Officer S. Gonzalez, the investigator handling the case.
Emily’s talent shone brightly during her time on America’s Got Talent. As part of the Los Osos High School dance team, she and her teammates impressed judges and audiences alike, advancing to the quarterfinals before being eliminated in August. Despite their exit, the team left a lasting impression. Judge Simon Cowell praised their performance with a standing ovation, remarking, “It was absolutely brilliant… the energy, the talent, the friendship—it reminded me of High School Musical, and it made me think every kid should have the chance to attend a school like that.”
Reflecting on her experience in an interview with PEOPLE on August 13, Emily shared how performing on such a large stage required focus and discipline. “When I’m on stage, I’m always thinking about the corrections we receive, even up to five minutes before we go on. Making sure we apply them is my biggest priority.” Balancing her high school commitments with the demands of AGT was no easy feat, but Emily took it in stride, saying, “It’s tough, but we make it happen.”
Following the heartbreaking news of her death, Emily’s loved ones launched a GoFundMe page to support her family during this difficult time. The fundraiser read, “With great sadness, we share the passing of our beloved Los Osos Grizzly, Emily Gold. Let’s come together as a community to support the Gold family. All donations will go directly to the family to help with expenses.”
Emily’s tragic loss has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and admired her. The dance community, her school, and the America’s Got Talent family continue to mourn her passing, remembering the light and passion she brought to the stage.
