Our Dog Wouldnt Stop Barking at the Thanksgiving Turkey, When I Finally Checked It, I Called the Police

One Thanksgiving turned unexpectedly adventurous when our dog Max incessantly barked at the turkey my husband Kyle had just brought home. Initially, I thought Max was eager for a taste, but his persistent barking prompted me to investigate further.

I’m Athena, but my friends call me Ace. I’m a 32-year-old dog mom who found herself in the middle of a bizarre incident last Thanksgiving.

Kyle had been out longer than expected to pick up our turkey from the local organic butcher. When he returned, looking slightly disheveled and hurried, he explained he had to stop and help his mom with a car breakdown. Before I could question him further, he rushed out again, leaving me with Thanksgiving preparations and an agitated Max.

Max was unusually fixated on the turkey, barking nonstop. His behavior was so out of character that I decided to check the turkey more closely. Peeling back the plastic, I expected nothing unusual, but to my astonishment, hidden inside was a bag stuffed with cash.

Confused and alarmed, I called the police, worried we might be unwittingly involved in something illicit.

The situation escalated when the police arrived just as Kyle came back. In our kitchen, now resembling a crime scene, Kyle sheepishly explained his odd choice: he had withdrawn our savings to secretly book a surprise trip to Hawaii for us. In a panic about hiding the money until revealing the surprise, he had stashed it in the turkey.

This Thanksgiving gave us an unforgettable story about the time our holiday turkey hid more than just stuffing. Max, the inadvertent hero, was rewarded handsomely, and despite the initial chaos, our family enjoyed a good laugh over Kyle’s unconventional surprise method. Yes, we eventually made it to Hawaii, making this Thanksgiving one for the books, and a story we’d share for years to come about how our dog and a turkey led to an unexpected family adventure.
