When 13-year-old Courtney Hadwin stepped onto the “America’s Got Talent” stage in 2019, the judges—Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Heidi Klum—were initially uncertain. Mel B tried to calm her nerves with encouraging words, “Don’t be nervous. You’re here for a reason, so go for it and good luck.”
Courtney quickly shattered any doubts with her explosive performance of Otis Redding’s “Too Hot To Handle.” Transitioning from a shy teenager to a commanding performer, she left the judges in awe with her vocal strength and stage charisma that seemed beyond her years.
The highlight of Courtney’s audition was when Howie Mandel, deeply impressed, pressed his golden buzzer, sending her straight to the quarter-finals. He expressed his astonishment by saying, “Oh my gosh, you’re not from this era; you’re from a whole different era.” Simon Cowell remarked on her transformation, noting, “You were this shy little thing when you came out, and then you sing and you’re like a lion.”
Courtney’s journey didn’t stop there. Although she didn’t win the competition, she was a finalist and consistently wowed the audience, particularly with her dynamic performance of Tina Turner’s “Nutbush City Limits” in the finals.
