My Colleague Came to My Date with Her 3 Kids in Tow And Ruined It, When I Confronted Her, She Boldly Said, You Should Thank Me

The evening had all the ingredients for a perfect third date: a cozy Italian restaurant, soft candlelight, and fine wine. I was excited to see Susan again, the witty and charming woman who had captured my attention on a dating app. Everything seemed to be falling into place, but life had a surprise in store—one that would change everything.

Susan arrived wearing a stunning navy dress, her smile lighting up the room. As we settled into our table, the conversation flowed effortlessly, and I couldn’t help but think, This could really be something special. Just as I was basking in the moment, the restaurant door swung open, and a familiar voice called out.

“Oh, hey, Rob! Fancy seeing you here!”

I turned to see Linda, my colleague from accounting, walking toward us with her three kids in tow. Linda was the type of person who turned heads wherever she went—smart, confident, and always a little unpredictable. Before I could respond, she made herself at home, pulling out a chair at our table while her kids eagerly helped themselves to the breadbasket.

“It’s packed tonight,” Linda said casually. “Hope you don’t mind us joining you.”

I absolutely minded, but before I could object, Susan leaned in with a sharp tone. “Friend of yours?”

“Colleague,” I clarified, feeling the situation slip out of my control.

Linda, however, seemed determined to stir the pot. She placed a hand on mine and smirked. “You didn’t tell me you had plans tonight. I thought you were babysitting.”

“What are you talking about?” I whispered, my voice tense.

Linda turned to Susan with feigned innocence. “I didn’t mean to intrude. It’s just, Rob’s been such a big part of my kids’ lives. I thought we were… closer.”

Susan’s face turned red with frustration. “You know what? You two clearly have some things to sort out.” Grabbing her purse, she stormed out, leaving me scrambling to salvage the evening.

I stood to follow, but Linda’s youngest child clung to my leg, giggling as if nothing had happened. Frustrated, I turned to Linda. “What are you doing? You just ruined my date!”

Unfazed, Linda leaned back with a satisfied grin. “I didn’t ruin anything—I saved you.”

“Saved me? From what?”

She pulled out her phone and showed me a screen. It was a mugshot—Susan’s mugshot.

“She’s a con artist,” Linda explained. “She targets men, gains their trust, and then drains their bank accounts. My brother’s a cop. He saw her file at the station last night. I tried to call you, but when you didn’t answer, I came here.”

I stared at the screen, stunned. “You’re serious?”

“Dead serious. She’s probably being arrested right now. You’re welcome.”

Relief and disbelief washed over me as I realized Linda was telling the truth. What I thought was sabotage turned out to be an act of protection. The rest of the evening unfolded differently than I had planned. Linda and her kids stayed for dinner, and by the end of the night, her eldest had everyone laughing with jokes about pizza and dessert. Despite the chaos, I found myself smiling.

That night turned out to be a pivotal moment in my life. Two years later, Linda and I are a team, raising her three kids together. She still teases me about “saving” me that evening, and I always respond the same way—with gratitude. Life may not have gone according to my plan, but it led me to something far better than I could have imagined.
